NBA Draft Game: Chase the 82-0 Season

The perfect NBA season is basketball’s great hypothetical. The 2015-16 Warriors won 73 games and still lost nine; the 1995-96 Bulls went 72-10 with Michael Jordan at the peak of his powers. Nobody has come close to 82-0 — which is exactly why fans cannot stop arguing about which five players it would take.

This game lets you make your case. Spin for a legendary franchise season, draft a Starting 5 across all five positions, and simulate the full 82-game grind. Most rosters land somewhere between the lottery and a deep playoff run. The truly absurd ones flirt with history.

How it works

Each of your five slots — point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and centre — starts with a spin. The wheel locks in one of six storied team seasons, including the 1995-96 Bulls, the 2000-01 Lakers and the 2016-17 Warriors, and deals you a hand of four players from that squad for the position you are filling. You get two re-rolls across the whole draft, and Knowledge Mode hides ratings so you have to draft on hoops knowledge alone.

With your five locked in, the game simulates all 82 games — no draws, every night a win or a loss. Chemistry matters: teammates who shared a franchise or a season lift your effective roster strength. Go 82-0 and you reach the top tier, IMMORTAL — 82-0; win at an 85% clip or better and you are on 73-WIN PACE, rubbing shoulders with the greatest regular seasons ever; below that the ladder runs through Champions, Contender, Playoffs and Play-In to the Lottery. The sim is seeded, so a shared result always replays the same season.

The real-world benchmark

The real-world ceiling is the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, who finished 73-9 — the best regular-season record in NBA history — and then, famously, lost the Finals to Cleveland. Before them the benchmark belonged to the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, whose 72-10 season ended the right way: with Jordan, Pippen and Rodman lifting the championship.

Even the most dominant stretches eventually broke. The 1971-72 Lakers won 33 games in a row — still the longest winning streak in NBA history — and lost their next one. An 82-0 season has never happened, which is precisely what makes the top tier of this game worth chasing.

Frequently asked

Has any NBA team ever gone 82-0?

No. No NBA team has ever finished a regular season undefeated. The closest anyone has come is the 2015-16 Warriors at 73-9 and the 1995-96 Bulls at 72-10 — both legendary, both well short of perfect.

What is the best regular-season record in NBA history?

The 2015-16 Golden State Warriors hold it at 73-9, edging the 72-10 set by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls. The Bulls won the title that year; the 73-win Warriors lost in the Finals.

How does chemistry work in the game?

Players who shared a team get a full chemistry link and players from the same season get a partial one. Your chemistry percentage feeds directly into squad strength, so five stars who actually played together will outperform five strangers with similar ratings.

Is this an official NBA game?

No. Go Unbeaten is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with the NBA or any league. It is a free draft-and-simulate game built around famous teams and players from basketball history.
