NHL Draft Game: An Unbeaten Season on Ice
Hockey has produced juggernauts, but never a perfect one. The 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens — widely considered the greatest NHL team ever assembled — still lost eight times. Eighty-two games of bouncing pucks, hot goalies and back-to-backs make an unbeaten season the most outrageous what-if in the sport.
This game hands you the what-if. Spin for a legendary franchise season, build a six-man line from goal out, and let the simulation run all 82 games. Gretzky feeding Lemieux with Hasek behind them is suddenly not a barstool argument — it is a season you can actually watch unfold.
Play NHL modeHow it works
You draft six slots: a goaltender, two defencemen, a centre and both wingers. Each pick starts with a spin of the wheel, which locks in one of six iconic team seasons — the 1983-84 Oilers, 2001-02 Red Wings, 1991-92 Penguins, 1976-77 Canadiens, 2009-10 Blackhawks and 2000-01 Avalanche — and deals four candidates from that roster for the position in hand. Two re-rolls are yours to spend across the draft, and chemistry rewards picks who actually shared a dressing room.
The season is the full 82 games, and every one of them is won or lost outright — no ties and no overtime-loss consolation point in this simulation, just two points for every win on your final card. Go 82-0 and you reach IMMORTAL — UNBEATEN; win 80% or more and you claim the PRESIDENTS’ TROPHY tier; from there the ladder descends through Stanley Cup, Conference Finals, Playoffs and Bubble Team to the Draft Lottery. As everywhere on Go Unbeaten, the sim is seeded — share your result and anyone can replay the identical campaign.

The real-world benchmark
The gold standard is the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens, who went 60-8-12 over an 80-game season — just eight defeats all year and a then-record 132 points — and finished the job by winning the Stanley Cup. Many consider that team the best in NHL history, and even they lost once every ten games.
The longest anyone has gone without losing is 35 games: the 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers’ unbeaten streak, still the longest in major North American pro sports. A full unbeaten season has never happened in the NHL, which is exactly the gap between real history and this game’s top tier.
